Eleveuse de chevaux arabes pour l’endurance et le tourisme équestre sur le Causse du Larzac depuis près de 30 ans, Christèle Derosch a découvert tardivement les grands camélidés, lors de voyages aux Emirats Arabes pour enrichir son carnet d’adresse de clients.
Le premier coup de foudre fut pour le désert, qui n’est pas sans présenter quelques similitudes avec les immensités semi-désertiques des Causses…et presque en même temps la visite fortuite d’un petit éleveur de dromadaires pour le lait en plein désert d’Abu Dhabi produisit un électrochoc !
Ces animaux étaient beaux, manifestement autant intérieurement qu’au physique … et tellement en phase avec les chevaux arabes … le virus était inoculé et son incubation allait être lente, mais irréversible !
Breeder of Arabian horses for endurance and equestrian tourism on the Causse du Larzac for nearly 30 years, Christèle Derosch discovered the great camelids late in life, during trips to the Arab Emirates to enrich her address book of clients. The first love at first sight was for the desert, which is not without some similarities with the immense semi-desert of the Causses...and almost at the same time the fortuitous visit of a small camel breeder for milk in the middle of the Abu Dhabi desert produced an electroshock! These animals were beautiful, obviously as much inwardly as physically ... and so much in phase with the Arabian horses ... the virus was inoculated and its incubation was going to be slow, but irreversible!
Devant l’impossibilité d’importer les animaux du désert, il fallait trouver une autre source d’approvisionnement pour acheter le premier sujet, ou plutôt les premiers sujets puisque Christèle imaginait que comme pour les chevaux, les dromadaires avaient besoin de vivre avec des congénères.
C’est comme cela qu’il y a un an seulement, au printemps 2019, une visite à un marchand réputé de chevaux ibériques et de sport, et occasionnellement importateurs de dromadaires des Canaries, se soldait par l’achat programmé des deux jeunes femelles … et de l’achat coup de cœur d’un mâle de 2 ans …
Faced with the impossibility of importing animals from the desert, it was necessary to find another source of supply to buy the first subject, or rather the first subjects, since Christèle imagined that, as with horses, camels needed to live with fellow camels. That's how only one year ago, in the spring of 2019, a visit to a well-known Iberian horse and sports horse dealer, and occasional camel importer from the Canary Islands, resulted in the planned purchase of two young females ... and the purchase of a 2-year-old male ...
Ainsi les trois jeunes Majoreros, sympathiques mais absolument vierges de manipulations et éducation, ont été livrés sur le Larzac ! L’apprentissage a été réciproque, faisant fi du proverbe essentiel « à jeune cavalier vieux cheval » …. Fort heureusement les trois recrues étaient d’un caractère heureux et loyal et d’une santé parfaite.
Deuxième heureuse coïncidence, une des plus brillantes coach habite le département de l’Hérault, ainsi Coralie Le Meur a pu accompagner pas à pas Christèle et son équipe dans leur baptême du feu…
Second happy coincidence, one of the most brilliant coaches lives in the Hérault department, so Coralie Le Meur was able to accompany Christèle and her team step by step in their baptism of fire... So the three young Majoreros, nice but absolutely virgin of manipulation and education, were delivered on the Larzac! The learning was reciprocal, disregarding the essential proverb "to young rider old horse" ... Fortunately the three recruits were of a happy and loyal character and perfect health.
En moins de trois mois, l’envie d’élever devenait trop importante (on ne se refait pas quand on fait naître une quinzaine de poulains par an) et l’horizon 2022 pour avoir les naissances des premières recrues tellement loin !!!!!
Miguel le marchand espagnol dénicha alors la commande sur mesure : deux femelles gestantes, dressées, pas trop âgées et de préférence de robe foncée comme le petit mâle.
Jamais deux sans trois, les deux dromadaires de 7 ans présumées pleines arrivèrent début novembre 2019 sur le Larzac avec une petite un an pot de colle trop craquante …
In less than three months, the desire to breed became too important (you don't get over it when you give birth to about fifteen foals a year) and the horizon of 2022 to have the births of the first recruits so far away !!!! Miguel the Spanish merchant then found the custom made order : two pregnant females, trained, not too old and preferably with a dark coat like the little male. Never two without three, the two 7 year old camels presumed to be in foal arrived at the beginning of November 2019 on the Larzac with a little one year old glue pot too crunchy ...
Aujourd’hui, un an après le début de l’aventure, ce sont 10 dromadaires qui empiètent sur les places d’écuries et les parcours des chevaux arabes, et surtout qui leur volent un peu de leur luzerne et beaucoup de l’amour de leur maman Christèle…
Les deux naissances ont eu lieu en février, deux petits extraterrestres mâles à tête de E.T. … juste après le dernier achat d’une femelle et d’un mâle de 8 mois.
Today, one year after the beginning of the adventure, 10 dromedaries are encroaching on the stables and the courses of the Arabian horses, and above all stealing some of their alfalfa and a lot of their mother Christèle's love... The two births took place in February, two small male ET-headed aliens ... just after the last purchase of a female and an 8 month old male.
Avec ce cheptel plus important que prévu initialement, une réflexion s’impose sur la finalité et l’équilibre économique de cet atelier supplémentaire à l’élevage. Le tourisme camelin apportera un plus aux randonnées équestres déjà en place, en commençant par des sorties en marche à pied avec la caravane, le temps d’acquérir si possible les compétences pour proposer les promenades à dos de dromadaire (et le temps que les jeunes grandissent). Et il faudra se résoudre à vendre les jeunes produits made in Larzac, afin de rester avec une dizaine d’animaux tout en se faisant plaisir en faisant naître !
With this larger-than-anticipated livestock population, a reflection is needed on the purpose and economic balance of this additional workshop to the breeding. Camel tourism will bring a plus to the equestrian excursions already in place, starting with walking outings with the caravan, time to acquire if possible the skills to offer camel rides (and time for the youngsters to grow up). And we will have to resolve to sell the young products made in Larzac, in order to stay with about ten animals while having fun giving birth!
La cohabitation très facile avec les chevaux pose les jalons de cette belle aventure : Baloutch, Loralaï, Riffla, Fara Dibah, Fabiola, Nour, Teide, Timanfaya et les nourrissons Kasimodo et Kashaf ont déjà adopté les parcours du Larzac, son climat rude avec la possibilité toujours de rejoindre le confort chaleureux des écuries…
The very easy cohabitation with the horses sets the milestones of this beautiful adventure: Baloutch, Loralaï, Riffla, Fara Dibah, Fabiola, Nour, Teide, Timanfaya and the babies Kasimodo and Kashaf have already adopted the courses of Larzac, its rough climate with the possibility always to join the warm comfort of the stables..
